Hawley is a small town in Franklin County, Massachusetts and part of the Springfield metropolitan area. First settled in the mid-18th century around forestry and recreation, Hawley is today a completely residential community, largely of commuters. The town of less than 500 has no convenience stores or gas stations with most people commuting or working for municipalities.
Given its small size, Hawley's residential real estate market is dominated by single-family homes, which tend to be more affordable than surrounding areas. The majority of homes in Hawley are historic Cape Cod and Colonial style homes, many of which began life as farms. The large plots remain in Hawley with private wooded views and large farmers porches being a common feature. Newer construction is harder to find in the town, although there are some contemporary and ranch homes built in the 1960s through the 1980s. True condominiums and apartments are difficult to find, but the town does have several Colonial and Cape Cod homes converted into multi-family residences.
