Haverhill, Massachusetts is located in Essex County, Massachusetts on the Merrimack River about 32 miles north of Boston. The city, originally named Pentucket, has a population of 61,000 today. Haverhill was originally founded as a farming community although it later became an industrial and shipbuilding center, then later a shoe-making city. Today, Haverhill is a popular suburb with a mix of historic residential homes, new construction condominiums, and mid-century construction.
Haverhill, unlike many communities in Massachusetts, has a wide abundance of condominiums and townhomes. Many condos in Haverhill were constructed in the last few years with anywhere from 1,000 to 2,500 square feet of space, although there are some historic 19th century buildings that have been converted into modern condos.
The Colonial style of architecture dominates the single-family landscape in Haverhill with many historic, restored properties in established, tree-lined neighborhoods. Farmers porches are a common sight in Haverhill's subdivisions, as are private wooded views. It's also common to see sprawling Cape Cod homes for sale in Haverhill, including historic properties built in the 18th century, revival properties built in the 1920s and 1930s, and more modern homes.
