Harwich, Massachusetts is a smaller New England town located on Cape Cod in Barnstable County. Harwich has a full-time population of 12,000, although it's a very popular vacation spot and many maintain vacation homes in the area. Harwich has three harbors with beaches on Nantucket Sound. Harwich includes the nearby villages of South Harwich, North Harwich, Harwich Center, East Harwich, West Harwich, Harwich Point, and Pleasant Lake. The town was first settled in 1670 and its early economy revolved around farming and fishing, particularly cranberry bogs. Cranberry bogs are still a common sight, although Harwich is now a residential community.
Harwich offers a wide variety of homes for buyers, although the town is largely composed of single-family homes rather than condominiums or townhomes. Many homes in the area are historic 18th century homes that have been fully restored and updated. Harwich's real estate represents many types of architecture, including mid-century Modern architecture built in the 1960s, ranch-style homes built in the 1970s, and contemporary homes built in the 1980s. Of course, no Cape Cod town is complete with representation of the classic Cape Cod architecture, which is found throughout Harwich. The town boasts sprawling Cape Cod homes, many of which are near the beach and built in the early 1800s.
