The town of Hampden, Massachusetts is located in Hampden County. This small town has a population of about 5,200 and it's part of the larger Springfield metropolitan area. Named for John Hampden, an English patriot, the town is typically divided into two communities: the village center with most community services and several businesses and the west side where the bank, farmer's market, and gas station are found. Hampden is unique in that it's one of few towns in Massachusetts with no numbered state routes or highways. In fact, the town has no stoplights, either.

Hampden's early economy focused on dairy cows, agriculture, and orchards. While there is still some evidence of this history, most orchards have now been replaced with residential real estate. Many homes for sale in Hampden boast spacious land and mature landscaping, although there is a wide range of architecture to be found. Many single-family homes in the village have been built since the 1950s, many of which boast the popular Cape Cod-style architecture that Massachusetts is known for. Ranch-style homes are also fairly common, as well as large Southern Colonial homes with tell-tale columns and character and country homes with large porches. Many historic-style homes in the town have been built within the last thirty years, offering a mix of historic charm and modern amenities.
